RIT Libraries Strategic Plan

Specialized Programs for Grad Students

The Library proposes to develop specialized instruction programs for graduate students and graduate assistants to include the following:

In-depth (half or full day) orientations on doing Library research, given before the start of classes, should be developed for the varied graduate student populations based on information from graduate advisors in each college.

The Library will institute specialized in-person instruction programs to support graduate students during the research and writing of Masters Theses and Ph.D. dissertations.

Programs to support faculty research by offering graduate assistants specialized instruction to make them more productive and to free up faculty from training their assistants in the use of information resources.

Partnerships with graduate and research advisors should be developed in order to anticipate, develop and adjust elements of specialized instruction programs.

Some of the elements of the RIT Strategic Plan addressed by this goal include:

Objective C4.1: Resources allocated to support scholarship will reflect the increased levels of scholarly activity....

Objective B3.8: Orientation for transfer and graduate students will be strengthened to ensure smooth transition for students to RIT whenever they enter.

Graduate orientations would be a great idea. I started in Winter quarter and the College of Business did a good orientation, but more Library (and campus) information would be a great thing to share with those of us who aren't familiar.

Hii
i really appreciate the progressing that the library is going through for the RIT students. It will significantly increase the benefit gained from the library. However, I'm a grad student, and i would be so grateful if you informed me about the specialized programs for grad students by e-mail, and when it is held because i came from Saudi Arabia where they don't use the library that much, and i have a serious problem knowing how to use it especially when i'm here as a graduate student.

Thank you so much, and have a great day

If there were any way to enable the NYConnect system with proxy accounts (as the IDS Express system has), it would be a big help to graduate assistants.
