Library Council – Set big 'Containers' ideas for the Library's 5 year strategic direction Establish a library strategic planning process timeline.

Library Council – Set the membership of Library Strategic Plan 'Container' teams, clarifies the charge for each team and expected outcomes.

Library Council – Determine membership of Library Strategic Plan 'Container' task force teams, establishes the charge for each team, expected outcomes and behaviors.
June 18th, 2004
Training session for eight Container Team Co-Leaders and three members of the Library Staff Transition Team on Leadership, Group Dynamics and Managing Change.
June 1st, 2004 to July 15th, 2004
Host a series of mandatory information workshops for library staff in order to broaden perspectives on the present information landscape and issues in information services (Liz Lawley: New Trends in Information Science, Frank Romano: Digital Printing and Publishing, John Townsend: Collaborative Institutional Repositories and the work of NYSHE, RRLC Leadership training & LTS campus networking/outlook/exchange workshop).
July 1st, 2004 to October 30th, 2004
Container Teams Task Force Work:
- Conduct (one on one) interviews of numerous campus constituents: RIT faculty, thesis advisors, graduate students, undergraduate students and others
- Review and analyze: 2003 Library User Survey, Report from (3) Student Focus Groups conducted by the library 2003/04, 2004 Library Staff Organizational Climate survey results, Report on What Graduate Research Libraries Offer That We Don't (2004), OCLC Environmental Scan (2003), Report Comparing ARL Libraries to Wallace Library (2003), RIT benchmark schools data, related Wallace Library use statistics and other related research articles and materials
- Prepare a descriptive list of the top 10 major action steps (tied to RIT's Strategic Plan) recommended for implementation to fulfill our strategic plan goals of 1) Supporting RIT Faculty Scholarship 2) Supporting RIT Graduate/Doctoral Research 3) Supporting RIT Undergraduate Education/Student Success and 4) Serving the Institute as a Cultural and Information Center

Library staff meeting – CM clarify the vision for the Library's Strategic Direction yrs 2005-2010. Restate the process, timeline, expected outcomes and behaviors.
November 1st, 2004 to November 15th, 2004
Series of intensive Library Council (managers) meetings scheduled during which we will select and draft our goals which will be presented to the campus for their feedback.
November 15th, 2004 to December 1st, 2004
Post and publicize a web-based interactive forum (blog) for online feedback and host two open campus forums to explain and solicit campus feedback for our Strategic Plan draft.
December 1st, 2004 to January 15th, 2005
Library Council integrates the campus feedback, finalize the goals and plot our annual objectives for the next five years.
February 1st, 2005
Implementation of the 2005 objectives has begun.
