RIT Libraries Strategic Plan
Library Hosted Events
It is important for the Library to have space dedicated for events such as lectures and the public performance of literary and performance arts.
The Library currently sponsors many such events and an expansion of current services is envisioned. Because of the neutrality of the Library building (i.e. not territorial to any one college), it is the logical location in which to host such public events.
Currently the space used for such events is the Soapbox in the Idea Factory located on the first floor of the Library building. We propose to repurpose the Idea Factory space to better accommodate events programming.
An element of the RIT Strategic Plan addressed by this goal is:
Objective E6.1: RIT will utilize its curricula, facilities and other resources to enhance a sense of community spirit and pride among its constituents...

I've been very pleased with the new performance spaces in the Idea Factory and Java Wallys, and thankful to the staff who help to coordinate these efforts, including Bob Chandler, Laura DiPonzio-Heisse, Sarah Reynolds, and Sara Reynolds.

Bob Chandler has done an excellent job informing the RIT community about upcoming library evernts and creating a sense of excitement for these events. Overall, the ideas presented in this strategic plan is are wonderful, and I hope they come to fruition.
