RIT Libraries Strategic Plan
Enhance Exhibition Space
We aim to provide visible, dedicated space(s) for RIT museum pieces which highlight the history and artifacts related to the Institute, as well as work from the RIT Archives, Special Collections and Cary Collection.
Increased exhibition space for visual information will also allow us to display creative works in all forms, by faculty, staff and students.
The Library will advocate support to:
- Obtain budget to renovate 2nd floor exhibition area with better lighting, surfaces and exhibition cases.
- Obtain budget for exhibition cases outside of Archives and Special Collections.
- Obtain adequate budget to prepare exhibit materials for display.
- Create a full-year exhibition schedule.
- Obtain adequate budget for marketing and promotions.
Some of the elements of the RIT Strategic Plan addressed by this goal include:
Goal E1: RIT will create an environment within the university community that enhances school spirit and pride among all of its members and constituencies. Objective E6.1: RIT will utilize its curricula, facilities and other resources to enhance a sense of community spirit and pride among its constituents.

This a wonderful idea. I've had the pleasure of sampling some of the old student magazines and other treasures held in the RIT Archives, as well as those in the Cary Collection, and have been pleased to see some artifacts exhibited at the Idea Factory, as well as in upstairs display cases. But a full exhibition space with an annual schedule (with accompanying workshops and conferences, perhaps) could draw visitors to campus and enhance RIT's profile.
