Presented by Anne Marie Baer. More and more Deaf consumers are accessing advanced academic studies. Because of this, interpreters are challenged to develop their skills to interpret appropriately in an academic register. This WWWorkshop will address various aspects of academic register that set it apart slightly from working in other registers.

*Educational Interpreting: A Practical Approach: Consumer Awareness, Rights and Responsbilities. This series of 7 captioned videos offers a practical and comprehensive approach to all aspects of educational interpreting, emphasizing information and strategies that are necessary to provide deaf students in grades K-12 with optimal communication access to education. Each video is accompanied by a companion booklet that reviews issues in greater detail and offers tips, guidelines, and other valuable resource information.

Oral Transliterating in School Settings. Videocassette. S.I.: Instructional Support System of Pa., 1994. 6 hrs. Voiced/Color/Signed. (ETRR only Video 5179).
This telecourse will provide oral transliteration theory and demonstrations designed for educational interpreters working in the K-12 school settings. Content will include philosphy/history of oralism and oral interpreting, the educational transliterator, terminology, principles of speechreading, verbal and nonverbal techniques for spoken to visible transliteration, and voicing techniques for visible to spoken transliteration.

This is an in-service orientation and information kit for schools and programs that mainstream deaf students. The videos provide insights into the issues and problems facing mainstream programs that employ sign language interpreters. Each tape has a companion written transcript. The set of 3 videos are: "Interpreters in Public Schools: Administrator Issues", "Interpreters in Public Schools: Teacher Issues", and "Interpreters in Public Schools: Intepreter Issues". There is a companion binder.
