Selected Movie Sites
These sites have been selected from the hundreds of movie sites available online
and most have a mix of reviews, trailers, and movie-related news. Short annotations
indicate the outstanding features of each site.
Apollo Movie Guide - Reviews
of over 2,500 movies, with "best", "avoid", and "stinker"
lists. Also lists new video and DVD releases.
Apple's Quicktime Movie Trailers
- An excellent source for current trailers. Older trailers are available, but
the "search" feature could use improvement.
Citysearch - The movie and entertainment
section includes listings for Rochester's current films and their show times.
E! Online - Covers all entertainment news/reviews,
including movies. Heavy on celebrity news.
Roger Ebert - Perhaps
the best known film critic. The website includes current films as well as an
archive of reviews, though the archive is much smaller than the 35,000 films
reviewed at tvguide.com
Entertainment Weekly Online - A general
site which includes movie news and reviews. Also includes book reviews, so it
is possible to compare the review of a book with a review of the movie made
from it.
Family Style Film Guide - Reviews
with emphasis on suitability for small children.
Film.Com - Both current and archived reviews.
Also a good selection of trailers, and some interesting
"Top 10" lists.
Filmcritic.com - Easy and quick access
to current reviews and films newly released on video or DVD.
FilmHead.com - Reviews with an extensive
archive. Run by an RIT alumnus - Matt Heffernan (EECC 1998.)
Fox Rochester - Good site for Rochester
movie listings and show times.
Hollywood.com - Includes local listings
and showtimes for Rochester theaters. Also movie news, reviews, interviews,
and trailers.
HotTrailers.com - Features trailers,
but also has good reviews.
i Know Rochester - Current Rochester
movie listings and show times, plus reviews.
The Internet Movie Database - Great for movie
and celebrity news.
Jo Blo's Movie Emporium - Reviews, trailers,
screensavers, news, and some lively discussion boards.
Jurassic Punk - Another site with
the usual mix of reviews and trailers, but it features a separate section for
animated films and cartoons, and also sells CD compilations of trailers.
Metacritic - One of the best sites for
reviews. For each movie there are short summaries from the reviews of many critics,
with links to the full reviews found in major newspapers, magazines and websites.
Movie Thing - Movie news, plus games and
posters.
Movie-List - Good selection of trailers,
including foreign and foreign language films.
Movie/TV News - Current movie and celebrity
news, plus current movie listings by zip code.
Movie Flix - Movie news and reviews, with
some free online films, cartoons, and classic TV shows (registration required.)
Projections - Six movie critics
give their grades. Also includes some "Top 10" lists.
Reel.com - Movie news and reviews, with searchable
archive. Trailers are available in several formats.
Rex Reed - Not all
of the articles on this site are about films, but the reviews are usually lively
and amusing.
Rochester Goes Out
- Produced by the Democrat and Chronicle, includes local listings and show times.
Rotten Tomatoes - Lots of links
to many reviews for each film (but often slow.)
TV Guide - Reviews for over 35,000
movies! Includes the "oldies", such as the 1903 Great Train Robbery,
and the 1915 Birth of a Nation.
U.S. Catholic Conference - Short
reviews from a religious perspective. Good source for finding films suitable
for young children.
