Initials
16th Century. From an album of excised initials (original source unknown).The appearance of cherubs, putti, or little fat boys engaged in various forms of play was very common in 16th century initials, particularly those from the Basel area. Hans Holbein is known to have designed some as did other prominent German artists of the period.
